Hi I m having a problem with my monitors ( Focal cmc 50) and I m trying to identify the cause. Any advice will be much appreciated. These are my questions. 1. Sometimes the right monitor suddenly stops working. That happens with 2 different cables balanced XLR cables and 2 different sound cards (I used USBdual Pre and also Apogee minidac). When that happens I try switching the cables right to left first at the sound card and then I try reverse the cable in the monitors but still the right monitor remains silent. Sometimes when I unplug and plug the cables of the right speaker either at the sound card or behind the monitor - it stars working. Last time I did not disconnect or touch the balanced cable but iI plug and unplug an RCA cable next to it ( the monitor accepts both RCA and Balanced cable) and - the speaker started working again!! Is the speaker damaged or the computer or what ? I have a macbook 2009. Any ideas? 2. If I play pink sound through the speaker and record it in the computer with a measuring microphone can I figure out if the speaker works properly? Is any other way? I could use also an iohone app itunes.apple.com/us/app/rta/id298839433?mt=8 for this but do I need a good mic or the internal mic is good enough. I also have fuzz measure but it does not have this function. Thanks for your help

This sounds like a problem inside the right speaker - it probably works and stops working more or less randomly or when it's jostled. So there's probably a loose connection inside. Since you tried two sound cards and two sets of wires, that rules out everything other than the speaker. Have you tried banging on it with your fist (not too hard!) when it stops working? Or do you have a portable CD player or MP3 player you can connect to just the one speaker, using yet another wire, to see if it still has the same problem?
