I am trying to set up a 2 channel hi-fi listening area in my basement and am having issues. I have a pair of sealed 12" subs that I am trying to place in my room.
The room is quite long, and is pretty well 3:1, which I hear isn't very good. To add to this, because of the flow of the room, I am using the far end as my front stage. That end of the room has a fireplace and flagstone flooring for the first 5' or so of the room. The rest of the flooring is carpeted over concrete. I place my speakers at present along the edge of that stone floor, so a fair bit of space behind them.
Previously I had open baffle speakers there before, and the bass was underwhelming compared to my last place. I thought going to a pair of 12" sealed subwoofers would add more impact. It is apparent the room is an issue. I have run amroc, and read up on bass modes and the sort, but wonder what some of the folks here might suggest I try in my room. It is not permanent, so I am not sure much can be done without a fair investment. Maybe my placement is partially to blame as well?
Ive included a floor plan. It's not perfect but fairly representative. The stone area is where the fireplace is. To the left of the fireplace (at the bottom of the left side of floorplan) there is a door to a small room that is sometimes open sometimes closed. The ceilings are approximately 8' (oddly, I forgot to pen that down). As you come down the stairs, there is a hallway to the left that goes to other rooms. The bar itself is bare wood, and about 4' high, with a small alcove there.
Just looking for some advice regarding setup or basic treatments. Think that's about it... apologies if anything critical has been left out. Thanks in advance.
