Thanks Rock, Hexspa and Ethan! I will keep the kraft paper on only the outside only of the rectangle soffit corner traps. As to that rather large 3'X8' ceiling grille cover I want tight to the ceiling. It will be covering four removed 2X2 ceiling tiles. Two of those spaces container embedded atmos front speakers in the joists, and two of those spaces between for the ceiling first refection point. I think a couple small pulleys and rope is in order. Two pulleys in the joists aligned to balance the rope attached large speaker covers. Then move a couple grids over and pull up the speaker covers up tight to the ceiling and anchor the rope. Might be a balancing act, but should work!

Pulleys? Rope? Sounds like a Rube Goldberg contraption! (See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Goldberg_machine ) Sounds like you you want to cover the open tile spaces with fabric. If I understand you correctly, I would do the following instead: 1. Make 4 (or how ever many you want) wood frames with say, 1x2's that will fit in the grid (in place of the original tiles). 2. Staple light acoustically transparent fabric or grille cloth the the frames. 3. Place them in the grid. 4. Step back and admire your beautiful new ceiling RFZ Cheers, Rock

Rock, I am sure Rube was my name in a previous life. Making the 2x2 ceiling screens was my first thought. But I am/was worried about some interference from the edges of the tile grid when the speakers are mounting deep in the joists to allow a more normal 2x2 grille to be inserted. Also my ceiling reflection point is right at the back edge of the open ceiling grids. So in true Rube fashion I could kill two birds with one stone. One big 3'x8' raised from below grille couple inches off the ceiling would allow two things. One I could mount the speakers a little lower with less pattern interference, and two I could add some absorption material to leading edge that still has tiles in place. Should be closer to hitting the sweet spot for reflections. Maybe not worth the hassle. lol

Working on the music room. I am adding a absorption cloud in the front atmos area. Now to make the grills to cover this area. One 4'x4' in the center an inch thick. Two 2'x4' three inches deep to accommodate how low I attached the speakers. Without Rube getting involved, any good ideas how to hang them? Thanks Pulleys? Rope?
