Hi, Audio Experts,
As some of you may know, I'm in a new apartment.
You may also be familiar with my sensitivity to neighbors' use of subwoofers - particularly when it's very loud or within quiet hours.
So I want to make a high pass filter for them.
From what I've gathered, any passive filter beyond first-order is lossy. I don't want to kill their enjoyment for my sake.
Turns out I have digital filters in Cue Mix FX for my MOTU Ultralite mk3. Great for me; mostly useless for my neighbors - except that I did try out a few filters and it seems that 18/dB is suitably inaudible while still mostly effective.
I've learned that Raspberry Pi is Linux. I'm assuming there must be some free, or low-cost, lightweight audio software that can be installed on such a system.
Perhaps Raspberry Pi is not ideal for this project.
Ultimately, I'm looking for a cheap, simple solution that shouldn't be obscenely challenging.
I should mention that my soldering skills are rudimentary at best although not completely useless.
If anyone can guide me on my quest I'd be most obliged!
Thanks,
-m

Cool thanks, Ethan. I'm really trying to witness my reaction to this stimulus. Don't know why the reaction arises but the fact that I constantly live adjacent to people who do this - inadvertently or otherwise - can't be total coincidence. Karla and I are trying a different approach this time - cookies. Laying down the law never seems to help; quite the contrary. I figure it'll be a great exercise in negotiation. The parties have already established an apparent basic rapport so I think a slower, more gentle approach might work this time. The woman of the house (single parent) has already expressed concern about her noise profile albeit from her birds (which bother me zero). Kind of a delicate issue but I'll be sure to update in case my experience can be helpful to others with similar proclivities. Thanks, -m
