Hi Ethan,
Last week I bought your audioexpert book from amazon kindle. Its a very wonderful book.
Last year before I read audioexpert, I look for your membrane traps panel absorber, and put it in my listening room. But maybe it was not intended to put in listening room. I asked this before in here the-audio-expert.freeforums.net/thread/226/speaker-boundary-interference .
because there was still a dip at 90hz around 20db.
After I read your book, and do Hexspa suggestion. I made broadband absorber, put in every corner, and trihedral corner, reflection point, ceiling, and made rear wall full of absorber with 1 foot air gap. It help alot for 90hz dip and better comb filtering reduced.
Still a little bit 90hz dip (can treated with front absorption, and when I try to add front wall bass trap, rta look more flat, but music sound was a bit strange).
The major problem is I loose liveness to every music. Instrument have no body, vocal size was very thin and small. I measure with minidsp and rew, my room rt30 drop to around 0.15ms (from 0.5ms before) but not below 70hz. Below 70hz still 0.8ms rt30. Please correct me if I was wrong, I think better to raise rt30 to 0.4ms to add liveness to my room, shouldn't I? I love to hear Tchaikovsky also.
And the problem is how to do that? Can a diffusor raise reverb time or just as diffuser only without affecting reverb time? Should I cover partial rear wall with woods? Just a simple design, wood and space between another woods? Or just do with some diffusers?
I read your diffusor chapter, and I'm afraid it doesn't work for my room, because I was sitting at 38% from rear wall. Although I read your experience, even one foot from diffusor, it will be better than barewall. I was confuse selecting diffusor between b.a.d. or qrd to my listening position. If qrd best for my room, is n13 with 3 period better than single period n31?
Btw, my room was small, only 4.5m depth, 3.1m wide and 3.3m tall. I was sitting 38% from rear wall.
Full bass trap at rear wall, only 30% bass trap at front wall. 80% ceiling bass trap. 30% bass trap especially at reflecting point side walls. no diffuser in my room right now.
Thank you
