Ethan, I saw a post from you a few years ago (on the Music Player Network) in which you stated that common paper is the same acoustically as FRK. Someone in that thread had suggested that either aluminum foil or even Kraft paper would work just fine, however my question is whether simple printer paper would work as well?

So I found some contractor's paper from Trimaco at Lowes that's roughly the same thickness and feel as that of your average grocery store paper bag, so I think that'll work.

Exactly what tests Ethan and his associates have done or he's come to know about, I'm not sure. What I'll tell you is that your question regarding FRK can best be resolved by individual testing. If it doesn't cause too much trouble, you can try out many different facings, measure the results and then choose the best for your application. If a common paper is acoustically identical to FRK, I'd be surprised. What I'm saying is that sometimes generalized advice doesn't always filter down to the particular without some reasoning to help it fit. An example is a common guidance to well-treat the rear wall. Apparently, and my tests have supported this idea, the reflections from my rear wall help to offset the strong modal peaks resulting from my side walls. Had I gone and traversed the worn path, I'd have not arrived at my current situation. As a side note, I congratulate you on pursuing a resolution on your own. You've shown initiative, reasoning and a desire to get 'er dun. Have some internet, please. Hope that helps. Thanks.

I've tried a few materials, and they're more alike than different. Paper like they make grocery bags from is good, and pretty much the same as the paper in FRK. Contact paper, which can be paper or thin plastic, is good too. The glue already on one side is one less thing for you to deal with.
