My 8 core Mac Pro Trash Can with 16gb of ram is keeps giving me system overload messages when trying to play my projects. This happens in both protools and logic and persists even when I increase the buffer size and the thread processors to the maximum. My projects aren't even that big at 44.1khz and 20 something tacks. They used to run just fine on my quad core cheese grater mac. Any idea on what my issue is here?

Sounds really weird. I have only MacBook Pro 13" and it got 8gigs rams, dual-core i5. I am running 50-60 track projects just fine(unless i put shitload of cpu heavy plugins in every channel).
Your specs are way better then mine. Are you using "shitload" of cpu heavy plugins on every channel?

I think my boot sequence was incorrect. Powered of my system and then powered it back on and powered on my UAD after the boot up and it worked fine. I'm hoping the problem was as simple as that
