I would strongly disagree. As mentioned above, different drivers have different phase responses. Having them physically aligned simply eliminates one cause of phase offset but does nothing to correct for the inherent phase offsets between the drivers as a result of them being different. If you are interested in this, I direct you to Bob McCarthy's book Sound Systems: Design and Optimization. The concepts you're studying are complex and take professionals in the field years to truly comprehend. I'm thrilled you're interested in them, but avoid jumping to conclusions based on reading one website. Bob's book represents the current state of knowledge on the subject and if you're truly interested, it's the best resource out there.
