Hi Ethan
Does it make sense to make a bass trap just a little smaller than 2 x 2 always 3,5 thickness or is it waste of material ?
many thanks

Even a small wash cloth absorbs something at 50 Hz. Though not much. It's all about size, and thickness, and it's all proportional. A trap twice as large absorb twice as much and improves the room twice as much. --Ethan

If the question is, will two 2x2 foot panels of a given thickness (3 1/2" in this case) work as good as one 2 x 4 foot 3 1/2' thick, I believe the answer is yes. So basically, if you build panels half the size, you just need twice as many for the same absorption as half of the bigger ones. You can think of it as coverage in sq ft. I think that's right, just the same thing said another way.
