Hi everyone, First of all, happy new year! I want to build super chunks. Their maximum size can be 24’’x24’’x33,9’’. The question is quite simple: with what do I fill it? I want to treat frequency’s below 125hz. I really tried to do research but some say fill it with glass wool (the fluffy stuff), others say put 703 on the front then fill the back with the fluffy stuff, others say just fill it with 703 or 705 and others say it’s not worth to fill it, just straddle the corners with Bass Traps made of 703 panels. What size (considering the max) and material would be the best solution? And what would be the best bang for my bucks? I found out that the MegaTraps from Mr. Winer himself are the same dimensions. If I could get results that come close to them I would be a very happy man Any help would really be appreciated! Best regards, André

Welcome André. I'm not the superchunk expert around here so I'm sure someone will be along shortly. In the meantime, there's a lot of great information in the stickied posts, so I recommend checking those out.

I’ll keep digging haha but hopefully somebody comes along indeed!

Thanks for moving this here André. This is a lot better for me than email or PMs on Facebook or a forum.
The answer is simple: For a large deep trap like that, use inexpensive fluffy fiberglass. When panels are 6-8 inches thick or less, the higher density rigid insulation types are indeed better. At one inch thick high density 705 is much better at low frequencies. But once you get to a foot thick or more, fluffy fiberglass is just as good. And it costs 1/3 as much, and is more readily available.

The only fluffy stuff available in my country has an aluminum thin layer on the back of the roll. Is this a problem? It says it is for damping/mould/moisture problems. I live in Amsterdam, should I worry about this? Again thank you so much. André

Actually, a thin layer of metal or paper increases LF absorption in the same way as FRK paper on 703 and 705. So arrange the material with the metal facing the room, then remove any metal from the rest of the filling behind the front portion. Of course, this is suitable only for corner bass trapping. You never want metal or paper facing at reflection points.
