Hello dear friends, hello from Greece!
I want to create a music room (its actually a multi-purpose that I will be living in during the winter months and then emerge again like a bear in the spring ), which will be orientated towards hi-fi listening but also for music practice and rehearsal.
My goals are:
1. To have a nice (acoustically) space to enjoy listening to music.
2. To practice and rehearse without having my ears fall off and have a decent sound.
Budget is extremely small and no measuring mic, but at least I've got my ears and a small wood workshop next-door where I can build quite a few things.
After reading and reading again (and then reading again), I 've decided to go for 50kg/sq.m stonewool (rock wool), to be able to cover more area but also to go thicker. So i will built:
15cm / 6 in. bass traps for the corners covered with either cardboard or plastic.
10cm / 4 in. panels for the RFZ (x1 distance from the wall)
I've made a few drawings on roomie 3D and I hope for some suggestions since the space is not ideal and I don't really know how to handle it:
This is what I think is the most reasonable option PlanStudio 1 INCHES.jp2 (123.53 KB)
This is the alternative version PlanStudio 2.jp2 (123.56 KB)
and probably less logical than all (38% from the rear wall) is this one PlanStudio 3.jp2 (123.55 KB)
The height is 3.01m / 10ft. and there is a nasty concrete beam on the ceiling ( 60cm / 23 in. in height) "separating" the two rectangles creating two extra corners.
In this room will also have a drum set, guitar, small PA for vocals etc..
The idea is that I ll start from what is on these drawings and in the future add some more bass traps in the ceiling corners and broadband absorbers as needed.
So my questions are:
1st of all, which placement is the best?
2. Do I have to spray-glue the membrane on for the bass traps or stretching it on is fine?
3. Can I add a very thin plastic membrane or other material on the back to keep fibres from floating around?
5. I have the skills to built diffusers, is there any point? Is this space too small?
4. Anything else that I am missing?
Thank you for your time,
Sotiris
