Hi, I'm conditioning a small room for mixing. I need advice because I don't know what is the best way to place the accoustic panels that I will build. The panels will be 135x60x10cm, with rock wool 4cm thick (70kg/m3). Later on, I will add some bass trap. Here you have some renders. The last one has a first idea of how to place the panels (the green dots are the first reflections area). I can move the black bookcase and put it horizontally or vertically, and if necessary, I can get rid of it. Perhaps the best spot is as it is in the first picture?? Any advice is welcome!! (sorry for my bad english!!)

( trying to see what I have learned from Ethan and all people contributing here) I think - for a such small room - you could treat the entire ceiling with very thick insulation and all corners with an air gap to the wall with absorption including the floor -celling corners of the room.
The rear wall including the door should also be covered entirely with bass traps.
(If the rooms behind the door are somehow quiet and have rugs, couches or other absorbing materials maybe you could leave the door open. I had a similar situation in a small apartment and I was thinking to treat with some base traps the ceilings of the other rooms or at places which do not conflict with the ergonomics of the household but I never did it os I don't know how well it would work. )
If it is practical - you could fill with insulation material the space under your desk making a very thick bass trap. Thick carpet on the floor would help more.
I have my speakers on the desk elevated and I use a piece of foam wrapped with muslin when I m trying to mix or to make a critical decision regarding sound designing etc..which is not so uncomfortable.
Another extreme way to make sure that you are not hearing reflections from your desk - is to put a piece of cotton panel wrapped with muslin on your desk under the speakers and equipment - I have not done that and don't know how well it works -- just a .....thought experiment-- maybe Ethan wants to comment.

You're already getting good advice. I'll just add that the bookcase should not be in a corner, at least not if you plan to use it for books etc. You'll want to put bass traps in those corners. So move it to one of the side walls behind you, away from corners and reflection points. --Ethan

I'd say go for dramatic coverage with gapped flat panels and across corners where space allows.

Wow, not expecting something like this... would be almost impossible to treat the entire ceiling, but I will try. Thankyou starandchlorisse! You're already getting good advice. I will put bass traps on all the corners where its possible. I'd say go for dramatic coverage with gapped flat panels and across corners where space allows. Thankyou hexspa, I will try my best.
