Good day sir, I have been reading your articles for quite some time now and Just want to ask if you have an advice on how to place a speaker for mixing in sorround? my problem now is as of the moment I only have 1 speaker for sorround in my setup, I wanted to get another one but its really hard to get a one speaker identical to my other speakers in my country . They always sell it in pairs in my country. And since I have a deadline soon for a movie mix and I'm still waiting for the supplier to call me if they have an extra speaker, I have no choice but just to make that 1 speaker at the back work for now. But my hunch is it will be bad since the speaker will be facing my center speakers too. Is there an article of yours which could guide me? We have very limited supplier of gears here in my country and if only I dont have a strict deadline I would have just waited for my 5.1 setup to be complete. Thank you very much sir.

I don't have an article that explains how to use only one surround speaker. But I agree with you that it should be in the middle of the wall behind you. It doesn't matter that it's facing the center speaker in front. And of course the one surround speaker needs to receive a mono mix of the left-surround and right-surround audio feeds.

Thank you very much sir ethan. yes It will be a mono mix of Ls and Rs. Im using Firfeface 800 and total mix allows me to sum it all up. My worries now is if there will be an acoustical problem in the room. My room is a around 5.4x2.8x2.9 meters. I followed your article that its always good to have a lot of bass traps, I actually made almost all sides of my wall like a tuned bass trap that you mentioned in one of your articles. Acoustically, will there be some things I should be careful whent it comes to its acoustics specially that I have 3 speakers in front and 1 speaker at the back?

The only way to know for sure how accurate your room is, is to measure it. The REW software described in this article is fabulous and free: Room Measuring Primer--Ethan
