Hello
I was wondering
1 . Is 44 the same with 44.1 sampling rate? Was trying to download sounds and they write 44 but I assume it is 44.1 - Correct??
2, Ethan is his book writes “converting between unrelated sample rates, such as 96 KHz and 44.1 KHz, is more difficult and risks adding aliasing artifacts if done incorrectly.” Is it possible to do that in logic without any problems?
and
3.My understanding is that when Ethan writes “Bit depth conversion is much simpler. To increase bit depth, new bits are added to each sample value at the lowest bit position, then assigned a value of zero.” then the conversion from 44.1 24 to 44.1 16 can be done with any free converter safely besides logic - correct?
many thanks

44 isn't the same as 44.1kHz. But conventions exist so 44 in this case probably is 44.1. Importing the samples into Ableton Live or Audacity should reveal the actual sample rate. I see you're using Logic but I haven't used it since V5.5. Conversion is better now so, assuming you're using updated software, you shouldn't have any problems. Converting bit depth should involve dither.
This is my understanding.

1 . Is 44 the same with 44.1 sampling rate? In general, yes. Obviously 44.1 KHz = 44,100 Hz and 44 KHz= 44,100 HZ. The 100 Hz difference is trivial, ands often just left out. 44.1 KHz is the sample rate of the first (and only) common audio CDs and probably the most common digital sample rate of all. Correct. With modern resampling programs, any kind of resampling is equally easy and correct. and 3.My understanding is that when Ethan writes “Bit depth conversion is much simpler. To increase bit depth, new bits are added to each sample value at the lowest bit position, then assigned a value of zero.” then the conversion from 44.1 24 to 44.1 16 can be done with any free converter safely besides logic - correct? same answer. Any up or down word length conversion can be done with high quality. [/quote]
