Hello Audio Experts. My name is Michael and this is my first post. While my initial theory has been debunked it has been requested that I post my query here so here it is:
Hi Mr. Winer. Hope you're well. Wondering if you've seen this video about 192kHz sample rates. www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_wxRGiBoJg
Presently I'm unsure of your stance on this but the gentleman brings up an interesting point: timing and distance become the focus above 44.1kHz sampling rather than pitch.
Inspired by you I did a little test on my MOTU ultralite mk3 and, hardware quality notwithstanding, I found a perceptible difference among the sample rates.
I just thought you might appreciate the perspective if you weren't already familiar. Thanks!
PS - if you'd like I can give you a drop box link to my files.

me again:
I've seen that vid and even have shared it. Thanks for pointing out that specific section though. I'm clicking around your forum but the link didn't send me to any thread. I would definitely like to hear what you have to say about sample rates though.

All I can say is that listening to these files I recorded there's a difference in sound among the sample rates. This is true regardless of what I set my audio interface rate at. I played these files in Quicktime, in Finder and compared between 48kHz and 96kHz when I played this part. (link removed) Hopefully you can take a listen to the 44.1 and 192 to hear what you hear. I may have mentioned it but it's a midi part played through Kontakt. Each time I used the resampling feature in Live (which I think internally records at 32 bit then dithers down) I restarted Live as per Kontakt's direction. Then I just moved the files to my desktop. idk but it sounds different to me.

I removed the link because I like the part I recorded and I don't want to share it. If anyone is interested in this thread maybe I can record a new part for critical listening.
Thanks!
