Helping a friend do a new control room -- approx 28 x 19 feet. There are 2 utility rooms at the back behind the mix position. We will be doing a drop ceiling over the 10 foot high sections with 2 layers of 3" 2x4 Roxul tiles throughout, including the 2 utility rooms. We could do both 6 foot utility room walls (A & B) with 6" studs and have floor to ceiling trapping with double layer Roxul -- seems like a very good corner trap. Also wondering what material options to consider for the curtain (C) which is 11 ft long by 10 ft high -- thinking limp mass but on a budget, and has to function as a curtain. Do you think this is a good approach, if not what would be better ? s1376.photobucket.com/user/geoff_waddington1/media/ControlRoom_zpszn0q9ypf.jpg.html?filters[user]=146045591&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=0" style="max-width:100%

If I'm reading your drawing correctly you have the speakers and mix position out in the middle of the room? That's not a good place. See this: How To Set Up A RoomA wall made of sheet rock is not a bass trap even if there's insulation inside the walls. A curtain that has any acoustic value at all needs to be extremely thick, and three times longer than needed so even when it's drawn closed deep pleats will form.

HI Ethan been a while, hope things are well. Yes, the walls will be covered with cloth, with 6" total of Roxul in between the cloth coverings -- that is to say, both the interior and exterior of A & B will be acoustically porous. As far as the curtains, yes, aware that they will not do much way down low, but check this link: www.rosebrand.com/Downloads/Royale-32oz-Acoustical-Test-Results-100.pdf-- looks like reasonable performance down to 160Hz. Unfortunately this area houses storage and laundry, so considerations other than acoustic dictate here, understand about deep pleats. Yes, as far as distance, I am fully aware of the 38% rule, the speakers are about 41% from the from the front wall and the mix position (chair) is about 41 % from the rear wall, once again this is also a living area, and also REW is our friend here, of course we will measure thoroughly The hope is that by trapping all of the 10ft ceiling area and doing as much as possible with the utility rooms, we can at least get into the "decent performance" range
