Hey man, if you can record your acoustic guitar in a nice open room then ya that's probably a good option. However, the home studio revolution has brought us another option: a dead room with some reverb VST later. Use the technology or don't. At least now you have the choice.
Going to a studio can be an eye opening experience. I went to one outside of El Paso, Sonic Ranch I think, and they had a variety of rooms. It's not like you get the live room and the control room and maybe a booth. You'll definitely gain more from a field trip than arguing with rock.
Ethan has great articles on where to place treatment. This forum has many real-world examples complete with pics of what others have done while under his guidance. These basics have been beaten to death so why not search for the answers?
I'm not answering any more questions until I see some pictures of a room in which progress is being made. This topic simply holds no philosophical value to me. The real joy of discussing this topic comes when you have a room which reflects your tastes and needs.
Onward!

For a live room? Please do tell. You don't have a live room. What? Actually, nevermind. I already have gotten more useful help from other forums. This thread has not really been that helpful except for a couple of posts in the beginning but thank you all anyway.

This thread has not really been that helpful except for a couple of posts in the beginning but thank you all anyway. Man. This is a tough one. I hate to see a noncontributing member leave. I might as well accept the blame. Why didn't I just build his room for him? He's in Gearslutz' hands now, I guess. Unfortunately, I quit drinking so I can't pour out some of my 40. Being that this is a forum of adventure, I'll just leave an offering which commemorates his brief stay. Oh, Heavens. Eulogy.

Ya. I wouldn't have minded if he said, "Hexspa, you're unhelpful." That's possible since my experience is nothing like Ethan's or that of other professionals here. The part I will never accept is how he said that he hasn't received much help in this thread. Beyond this thread, Ethan replied to him directly and, knowing what it takes to get started, I really doubt he's actually received more help anywhere else. Intellectual tomfoolery, maybe, but definitely not help. I want to thank those who have helped Attaboy, or at least did their part. Unlike you, antonmcmillan, all he did was say why things won't work for him, argue about irrelevant points, and gave absolutely no evidence of understanding or of having taken even action step one. This forum made every resource available to him, including the suggestion that he can pursue academic study if that's his angle but his responses were always argumentative and negative. Ain't nobody got time for that. Sorry you guys had to see this but let it be an example to anyone who comes here: you will receive excellent treatment but, if you don't want that, you're free to find answers elsewhere. Sometimes the advice you need is not the advice you want but that's how it goes. Just please don't insult anyone by blaming them for your problems because I, for one, will not tolerate it. Thank you.

I totally agree with you Hexspa, I think you've summed the situation quite accurately. Too bad for attaboy but his leaving is his loss...and possibly our gain. Hey, we tried.
