Ok, we know I'm not a hi-fi nor headphone guy but I just got some DT-770's. They're pretty fab with character-revealing mids, good extension both ways with respectable punch. I'm never going to mix in these but they got me wondering: what do you guys use headphones for? There are all the usual suspects like tracking and preventing bleed, editing, second reference & pleasure listening. Even so, I'm curious as to your guys' specific uses.
I noticed with these that there is some extra focus around 6-8kHz. Either way, I still want to try out the 990. Do the 880's have that 1-2kHz range where you can really get the character and transients on guitars, piano, and percussion?
They are really detailed, probably cause there is little roll off in lows, still there's all that sub bass, just a tad quieter. I haven't done seriously critical listening with these for a while, so Im not sure about that 1-2khz range. But when I put these on, my first focus is always on the upper end.
DT-770 should have more bass, and probs even DT-990. I have also had those both on my "wish" list, since I bought my DT-880.
Ya the 770s are not lacking in bass at all. I just got 'em yesterday but I can already tell they'll be a great complimentary third reference especially for the low end. Let me know how you like the 990s, if you get 'em, cause they're on my list now too.
