What are your thoughts on this? I've read that smaller rooms shouldn't have 3 way monitors but I don't exactly believe that to be true. Are there benefits to going with a 3-way monitor over a 2-way or vice versa? I should also specify that I've been eyeing the EVE Audio SC205 and SC305 specifically in this comparison.

I don't see why you couldn't have big speakers in a small room (unless so big they don't physically fit in ). You need to treat your room anyways, unless you go so small speakers that basically don't reproduce bass frequencies at all. If you can, I'd suggest to audition both of those EVE speakers in your room, and see which one is better for you in your room. I bought my pretty expensive monitors without listening. After 2 years I can honestly say I wouldn't have probably chose these if I had audition first. Even tho I still love the looks of those monitors...

I bought a power amp for my guitar rig once, sound unheard. It totally didn't match my style. In contrast, I just got an MKE 600 shotgun mic and, only going by youtube reviews, I think it was a good choice.

I don't think room size matters with 2 way VS 3 way VS "n" way etc. I do however believe that the distance you listen from will matter if you are too extremely close. That said, you'd have to be 1 or 2 feet away to have issues so in a normal room setting, you shouldn't have a problem with that either. If you do have a mix desk set up where you are really close, smaller(5" or 6") 2ways might be the way to go.
