Is it recommended to use Foam Windscreens for mics when recording actors or singers to protect the microphone from saliva etc or it will affect significantly the quality of the recording ?Thanks

Why not pop filter? You can use even two easily. Those thick windscreens kill little bit highest hi-end.(Major or not, try out). If its LDC I would just use pop filter or two.

Using a windscreen is a good idea, have extra on hand so I can put a fresh one on for another singer when I need to. To wash them, I just put them in a little bucket or bowl with a couple drops of detergent and squeeze them a bit rinse squeeze again and let dry. These days with the virus, it's probably a good idea to wipe down the surface of the whole mic with disinfectant, screen and all (but don't spray anything in the screen and element behind!)
But yeah, the foam windscreens can take some of the high off (but I don't think it's much if any) so it's up to you to listen and decide for yourself. If it's not what you want, Pasiam's suggestion of a pop screen/filter placed an inch or two (or more) from the mike is also good for spit and probably better for plosives. I think they are better but IMHO, you really need to listen yourself to decide what works best for each singer and mic combination.

You can use pantyhose too. Not sure how much highs they kill.
