I have been seeing lots of ads for Acoustic Felt and PET Acoustic Felt? It seems to be fairly environment friendly, visually appealing and has sound absorbing capabilities. Anyone heard of or use this stuff? Is this stuff any good for serious audio use (recording studio usage)?

I don't know about it but it sounds like it's a frictional/porous wide-band type absorber. Just get the acoustic data on this product and see how it compares the stuff like OC 703, 705 or mineral/rock wool etc. The specific thickness of these products typically determine their low freq performance.

Here's what I am seeing that doesn't quite add up (check the link). There are other brands besides this one with better or worse NRC ratings. This is just an example. If this stuff is not as good but I can buy whole sheets to cover 100% of walls with it instead of just panels around the room, does that make it as effective? feltright.com/pages/acoustics-101

More thickness of the material gives lower frequency of absorption. This stuff must be thin as it only gives .35 NRC at about 800Hz. That's not enough for music but it's maybe OK for speech like in a talk radio studio BUT voice communication voice is considered 300Hz to 3kHz so it's really not even enough for that. You see in the last illustration they show the product used in a regular room where people are reading. I'm sure it does something so it depends what you are using it for.
BTW, I heard of one freelance voice announcer for those dramatic political commercials used his closet full of clothes for a voice booth.
For music, you're better off with 4" to 6" or even more.

I've used various densities of felt in speaker design. Thick felt work well in speaker boxes for reducing Qtc. Also in ported box a small amount of Thick felt has removed box internal resonances. Also use it on around mids and tweeters to control the very earlies reflections..
For broadband absorption panels, acoustically transparent has a 7khz reflection so wonder if a layer of felt would be better than the fabric.
There are many Densities(F rating), thicknesses and attractive colors available at Brand Felt
