Hi,
I'm starting to build some broadband abosrbers and membrane absorbers, both with rockwool insulation (64Kgs/M3 density) but I can't decide wich material I use for the frames, Pine Wood or MDF? (both are 1'' wide)
Wich one is usually used?
For the membrane absorbers I would use a thin MDF membrane (9mm).
My question is: is there a problem if my membrane absorbers has a thicker frame (1'' MDF of pine)? Would that interfer on the membrane vibration?
Thank You

The frame is not intended to resonate so it is not a factor in determining the resonant Freq, so the frame material is not critical as long as it's solid. Did you consider using broadband absorbers only? They are recommended for smaller rooms over resonant panel absorbers.
Cheers, Rock

Rock gave you the right answer. For simple frames, the only goal is to hold the rigid fiberglass in position. But I have to question your intention to build wood panel traps, if I read your post correctly. Most smaller rooms do better with thick material for broadband absorption. If you want to target very low frequencies, use even thicker material and have more traps.

First I'm going to build only the broadband absorbers and if my problem continues I'll try some different approach. Thank you for your advice my question was about the actual frames (if the material would interfer that much). About the membranes I mentioned, actually my plan is to do a helmholtz resonator made with 9mm MDF and calculate the amount of holes. Today I just built the 4 frames from the broadband absorbers can't wait to measure the difference, I'm waiting for the rockwool Thank you
