I am a FOH engineer from India. I follow regular posts on the audio forums.
My question is --how to get flat frequency response in live sound venue? and get rid of room boom/mode.
My sound system is portable and I keep changing the venue on almost daily basis. I cant have absorbers or bass traps as the venue owners are generally non cooperative for any treatment for their property even if it is temporary. further, the owners allow the musicans/sound technican to occupy the venue just few minutes before the show. Hence physical absorbers is not possible.
So is there any way of achieving a flat response without physical treatment? Currently I am using RTA with pink noise to smooth out with PEQ.

Other than bringing your own acoustic treatment, I don't know of any way to change the response besides using an equalizer.

Can notching narrow frequencies correct Room ring in time domain? say, using 4 to 5 narrow notches to bring drown room exciting freqs.
I know that any change done in frequency domain is limited to small space where the measurement mic is located. With only 4-5 eq changes can the ringing be reduced on a broad area if not completely eliminated?

I think SPL and ringing are 1:1 - the more a frequency exists, the more a mode is excited.
However, I think there are going to be standing waves regardless - the room will just be prone to ringing there.
For instance, my neighbor plays music but I can only ever hear D and G. I'm assuming they're not always doing ear training; it's just my room's resonances.

Yes, but if you move literally one inch away the ringing comes back. How about averaging the measurements on a wide area and notching the freqs? Room EQ wizard can average the measurements....
