Hi folks, looking every day at acoustics panels, hanging at the wall behind my monitors I started wondering - what if I remove piece of drywall about 2x4, replace pink stuff in the wall by roxul or SrS, cover it with some nice frame with fabric - what do I have to lose? Why I'm wasting 5" of insulation , can I make it work?

Sure, if you don't need the small amount of room to room sound attenuation that piece of DW gives you, go for it. If the roxul is slightly thinner than the space depth, install it so the air space is behind the roxul to get a little better LF performance.

This is 6ft wall between my space (with treatment) and other piece of basement (workshop part). Ideally it would be nice to move if back at least couple feet to get more space for studio and less for workshop, but not today. Thanks for quick reply, will go and generate some dust One small question - if I want to do it today, I have only Thermafiber 15" Ultrabatt ($28) and FireAndSound ($50) in nearest HD. I've spent some time on forums and understand people don't know much about this new stuff. Or I can drive to Lowes to get ConfortBatt (known stuff at least). Which one?

I don't know much about those materials. Acoustically, you can usually dig to find the data sheets. Those may or may not have some absorption coefficients included. Less than a 0.15 difference is nothing.
