^^^ LOL, srsly. If you want good imaging, all you need is to put adequate absorbers at the side-wall (and possibly ceiling) reflection points. Boom, done.

By moving my left speaker forward a bit I shifted my image from "off to the left" to center. This is no different than haas panning.

Wish i could fîgure out what he is suggesting to do here. Me or the guy? Just click on one of the audio files and listen to it on your system. File 4 is a series of bursts and the .flac files are just mono recordings. I've found there are many ways for your imaging to go wrong. Actually I feel like I'm getting sucked into trolling. Hey, the link helped me. -m

No, I was being serious. It's not clear to me why you couldn't just listen to a mono recording, or a good center vocal track, to get good, pinpoint center imaging. I'm assuming there's some purpose to having these bursts but the article doesn't really describe why you would use them, or how you might move the speakers around and what to listen for in them. Maybe I'm just missing it. I've done a lot of playing around with speaker positioning over the years and finally feel like I've gotten them where I have a nice realistic soundstage. But am always looking for tips. Agree with Ethan on the side reflections making the most difference though in imaging. I didn't realize how the instruments would smear left and right before I treated the sides.

I didn't realize how the instruments would smear left and right before I treated the sides. Well. For instance my subwoofer was placed right of center and that drew my upper bass toward it. That might not be obvious depending on your source material (not full bandwidth). You might also be able to individually time-align drivers. With those bursts my bass is centered (non local frequencies), then around my cross-over point the bursts steer slightly left and then become centered again. There's really nothing I can do about that but it does explain some of the funky imaging I get. The thing is few people are contributing anything but questions or build logs in this forum. It's borderline hilarious that I post something useful and it gets "well idk why you'd use this". If you don't need it then don't use it. I've never come across a totally useless tool. -m

Sorry if it came across that way, I was honestly asking how to use it. As I said I'm always looking for more tips. I was just wondering how its different from using mono recording, etc, for some reason.

Ah well, I'll find somewhere else to go then.

Hi Steve, Looks like you're gone already but if you do happen to see this, I'm sorry to see you go. I have to say that I am confused about your comment because from this thread, it looks like it was Hexsaps original post but I have to assume I am mistaken considering your apparent disappointment in us as a whole. In any case, here's wishing you all the best!
Cheers, Rock

Cheers, Rock It is indeed what Hexspa has written above - and by inference, build logs are anything but useful on here, so I see very little point in remaining, as that is why I am primarily here, as invited by Ethan, from my other build blog. Just for the hell of it now - I can also say I actually do know a bit amount about speaker stands, how they work and what to do with wobble - I studied it for 3 years, patented designs and set up a company making them...(YES-HONESTLY!) When challenged with doppler and other nonsense I simply gave up, as obviously I was dealing with an expert. It was fun for a while, but hey, the internet is a big place. Catch you someplace else Rock There are plenty more places for me to hide.

Catch you someplace else Rock There are plenty more places for me to hide. Bro you're way out of line. Let's face it your post had 1600+ views and virtually no responses. I didn't say the thread was worthless but some epic build is just not going to be useful to many people. The thread was cool but I couldn't make heads or tales of what was going on. I will admit - I was being defensive but, again, I wasn't attacking the validity of other posts; it was an observation which made me wonder why people aren't posting tools and articles but just questions and build logs. Cool - you're a speaker stand inventor. I would've expected more out of someone with your qualifications than some quip about physics. If doppler is nonsense regarding that then it would've been better to say so than be aloof and vague. I asked a question - I didn't say "my speaker stands wobble due to the movement of the cone." I was wondering. I've said many times on this forum that I'm an amateur enthusiast - nothing more (yet at least). Yes, I know I can improve my room with the tools and strategies at my disposal but that is just confidence from application and investigation. Calling me an "expert" is so passive aggressive that it makes me sad. You were "challenged", "gave up", and now you want to "hide". LMAO man. All I can say is this: I understand that people seem to be under lots of stress. You scratch the surface and pus runs out. All that infection makes their ears malfunction - I say x they hear xyz or some other mutation. You have apparently misinterpreted the facts due to some emotional investment. I'm not going to quote myself and refute every last line of garbage you're spewing. Anyone can now see this and decide for themselves. Just don't go blaming me for your behavior. That's just being a victim and is really not cool. Thanks, -m
