Hey there,
New to the forum and have been a fan of Ethan and Real Traps for a while now. Finally finding myself moving in to a permanent home and the wherewithal to get down to work and build in a project studio.
The space that is being handed to me on a silver platter (meaning wife approved) is a workshop attached to the carport, which is about 50m down the hill from the house - a completely separate structure, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about this distance from the DFZ (domesticated family zone)
The house and carport were built in the early 50’s and since then the city has redrawn and/or magnified the property lines exposing the fact that the structure encroaches on city property by one foot. Even the setback for structures is 35 ft so this thing would give even the most easy going-ist of city hall inspectors an aneurysm. Point is - I can not in any way change the shape of this thing without triggering the invasive eye and a potentially catastrophic stroke of a pen by “the man”.
That all being said - the room is 17’6” long and, wait for it, 5’11” wide. Yes. That’s five foot eleven. 8’ high ceilings.
There is no other option besides building a separate structure in the backyard which would be awesome but at this point cost prohibitive. Inside of the house is a no go too as it’s basically a cottage.
I’d like to add a layer of drywall all around to help with noise escaping, so I’m down to 5’10” wide. What do y’all think about these dimensions? I can bass trap the hell out of it. I don’t mind squeezing in there, and my brother’s an HVAC guy who can get me these amazing and dead silent mini split air conditioners for cost so I don’t cook in the summer.
Is this a pipe dream? Or can that length make up for the narrowness and not be too brutal?
Thanks for the read, and I’m glad to be here.
Neil
