They force us to install newest glibs or other to be able to run any new piece of crap which is claimed to be a new breakthrough. I agree with the book that you must not upgrade if all works well. These upgrades always break something or increase cpu consumption. One has told that old linuxes could run wjndows dlls without wine. Also oss v3 was part of kernel space unlike alsa. So linux has become worse for audio. As well as windows which replaced agp by pci slot thus making video interfere with audio. Though i don't use windows as it has no rt kernel.
